Discharge Systems

Reliable discharge of challenging bulk materials from storage, stockpiles, hoppers and silos

Throughout the industrial sector, bulk materials with all types of flow properties, some problematic, are conveyed, stored and unloaded. There is a choice of discharge machinery, which can only be made after appropriate design work and dimensioning of the silos or hoppers has been completed.

The main criteria for the design of the Discharge System are bulk density, moisture content, particle size, distribution of particle sizes, temperature and wall friction angle as well as information about the percentage of dust, abrasiveness and corrosiveness of the bulk material.

Proven AUMUND Technology in this area:

MOLEX® for residue-free discharge of round silos and circular storage halls with an active storage volume of up to 97%.

CENTREX® specialised equipment for materials with challenging flow properties (for silo diameters of up to 8m).

Rotary Discharge Machine BEW type LOUISE for high capacity discharge and simultaneous homogenisation.

Rotary Discharge Machine BEW-K type LOUISE for silos of up to 14m diameter.

MOLEX® is a residue-free discharge system which provides homogenous mixtures of clinker at high volumes.

Functions and Characteristics

  • Higher active storage volume in circular storage and large volume silos
  • Clinker extraction up to 97%
  • Suitable for mixing different batches of clinker
  • Suitable for mixing material of varying particle sizes
  • Low investment and operating costs through the presence of only one discharge channel and reduced requirements for conveyors and silo discharge gates

CENTREX® is the ideal equipment for the discharge of silos or receptacles storing sticky materials which do not flow readily. A logarithmically formed discharge arm guides the material to the central outlet, reaching underneath the complete bulk material pile and at the same time undercutting along the external wall of the silo in order to avoid material deposits and inactive zones.

Functions and characteristics

  • First in, first out concept
  • 100% capacity (mass flow)
  • Even lowering of the complete hopper contents
  • No separation or bridging of the material
  • Silo diameters of up to 8m
  • Geometry and mobility of the inner cone dependent on the material
  • Logarithmically formed discharge arm, reinforced if necessary
  • Hydraulic or frequency-controlled drive unit

Examples of available product types:

CENTREX® Discharge System type CTX-IV

The Discharge System has an internal drive unit inside an inner cone. Radial supporting arms connect it to the silo wall, which has roof-angled slide plates to prevent material accumulation. At least one of the arms is designed as a hollow girder to allow access to the drive unit inside the inner cone.

Frequently the applications are:

  • Feeding of mills, dryers and kilns
  • Extraction of sludge from beneath slurry tanks
  • Discharge from silos with pressurised inert gas
  • Discharge from silos with toxic substances

CENTREX® Discharge System type CTX-AV

The drive unit is external and the inner cone is stationary.

CENTREX® Discharge System type CTX-AFD

With external drive and rotating inner cone, this design is appropriate for particularly challenging bulk materials. In this version the inner cone, the discharge arm and the rotating chute together form a revolving unit.

The ROTOR Discharge System from AUMUND shows its strength particularly in the handling of challenging bulk materials such as FGD gypsum.

Functions and characteristics

  • First in, first out concept
  • 100% capacity (mass flow)
  • Even lowering of the complete hopper contents
  • No separation or bridging of the material
  • Silo diameters of up to 10m reduce the required construction height whilst the volume remains the same
  • Discharge rates of up to 1,800 mᵌ/h
  • Modular structure
  • Flexible drive technology
  • Discharge arm with built-in restraint
  • Discharge arm with plating or coating depending on the material
  • Logarithmically formed discharge arm for reduced wear and lower energy consumption
  • Dual-purpose discharge arm undercuts the material column and discharges via an internally mounted plate

AUMUND Rotary Discharge Machines type BEW ensure reliable discharge even of challenging bulk materials from storage, stockpiles, hoppers and silos. They are the appropriate equipment to handle materials such as limestone, marl, dolomite, natural and FGD gypsum, coal, ores as well as additives in the cement, iron and steel and power industries.

Functions and characteristics

  • Discharge of bulk materials with difficult flow properties
  • Electrical controls
  • Movement in the discharge channel is possible in both directions
  • Logarithmically formed discharge arms for even discharge
  • Block design for double sided discharge
  • Flat design for single sided discharge (slewable to both sides)
  • Fast gear for travelling mechanism
  • Positioned on the steel structure of the belt conveyor
  • Pre-selection of particular areas possible (slewable version)
  • Hydraulic drive unit
  • Dosed extraction possible (frequency converter regulates the capacity)

The AUMUND Rotating Rotary Discharge Machine BEW-K type LOUISE was specially developed for large discharge openings and silos with diameters of between 6 and 14m. A typical application is for discharge of FGD gypsum in a coal-fired power station.

Functions and characteristics

  • First in, first out concept
  • 100% capacity (mass flow)
  • Simultaneous feeding and extraction
  • 6 to 14m diameter of silo and discharge opening

More than 1,500 units worldwide point to the AUMUND Silo Discharge Gate being the standard machine for dosed unloading of clinker silos. It produces very little dust and therefore has low impact on the environment.

Functions and characteristics

  • no free fall of the clinker onto the conveyor
  • Low throughput rate adapted to the speed of the conveyor effectively avoids dust (gravity principle)
  • Level limiting blade for constant discharge capacity
  • Conveying volume can be controlled by changing the discharge speed of the conveyor or by altering the position of the levelling blade
  • Simple, reliable concept
  • Discharge rates of more than 1,000 tph in one line

Accurate design is the most important element in achieving cost-effective operation in clinker storage. Particular aspects to be considered are the output rate and the best possible design of the conveying routes as well as the material properties and the design of hoppers, storage and silos. AUMUND has many years of experience in this domain proven by numerous successful projects all over the world, which enables its specialists to provide comprehensive consulting on the technical and economic merits of proposed solutions.

Storage of cement clinker is a necessity of continuous kiln operation. Increasing kiln capacities present requirements for storage volumes of 200,000 mᵌ or even more.

Functions and characteristics

  • Available space
  • Statics, soil bearing capacity and ground water situation
  • Bulk material temperature and flow properties
  • Environmental regulations and design
  • Investment and operating costs
  • Capacity and output rate (operating automatically)
