SCHADE Case Study

Maximum pre-assembly for a challenging quarry project in Northern Europe

How can a large-scale stacking system be engineered to minimise on-site assembly when it first has to travel more than 28,000 kilometres to its destination? A new SCHADE Case Study shows how maximum pre-assembly and transport-optimised engineering were combined for a demanding quarry project in Northern Europe.

The Project

Engineering for maximum pre-assembly

To expand production capacity at a quarry in Northern Europe, a high-performance and reliable stacking solution was required. SCHADE developed a custom-engineered Stacker with Tripper Car with one central objective: to minimise the amount of assembly work required on site.

From the initial concept study and 3D design through to factory testing, the system was consistently engineered for a high degree of pre-assembly. Individual assemblies were optimised for transport, handling and installation from the outset.

Engineering Focus

Designed for transport from the outset

Maximum pre-assembly created a particular engineering challenge: the system had to be divided into large, transportable assemblies without losing the advantages of factory pre-assembly. Dimensions, weight, structural design and the positioning of technical equipment were therefore considered as an integral part of the engineering process.

Transport-Optimised Engineering

From the Far East to Northern Europe

To achieve the maximum degree of pre-assembly, the complete system was fully assembled at the manufacturer’s facility in the Far East, including a test run and factory inspection.

It was then dismantled into a small number of transportable assemblies. Through systematic transport optimisation, these could be safely shipped to Northern Europe and installed on site within a very short period of time.

Structural elements were reinforced for sea transport, technical equipment was strategically relocated and the assemblies were optimised in terms of dimensions and weight. The result was a transport concept covering more than 28,000 kilometres from the Far East to Northern Europe.
