Low-noise and vibration-free: AUMUND delivers fourth foundry conveyor to Castings P.L.C.

Following the successful commissioning of an AUMUND foundry conveyor at William Lee (UK), the Castings P.L.C. Group continues to consistently invest in modern conveying technology. Another conveyor has now been ordered for the Brownhills plant – already the fourth system of its kind within the group.

AUMUND Fördertechnik GmbH, based in Rheinberg, Germany, develops and supplies reliable and cost-effective conveying solutions for foundries worldwide. As a high-performance alternative to conventional vibratory conveyors, the specially designed FPB-G flat plate belt conveyor was developed for use as a cleaning and sorting belt. The design is based on many years of experience and intensive exchange with customers from the foundry industry, ensuring that practical details from daily foundry operations are purposefully integrated.

Castings P.L.C. is a market-leading British company specialising in iron casting and machining, with production sites in Brownhills, Dronfield and Scunthorpe. Since 2024 and 2025, three comparable AUMUND conveyors have been in operation across the group’s plants and have proven their reliability in daily production. With the installation of the new conveyor at the Brownhills site, a significantly improved working environment is now also being created there.

The AUMUND conveyor replaces a previously used vibratory conveyor. As a result of the changeover, noise and vibration exposure for employees has been almost completely eliminated. At the same time, the conversion leads to a noticeable improvement in energy efficiency.

The flat conveying surface allows castings to be sorted and cleaned at an ergonomic working height and without the risk of jamming. The optimised design of the belt plates prevents gaps at the edges and enables smooth lateral discharge of the castings. In addition, the high mechanical stability of the design allows the use of a manipulator. Thanks to the high strength of the plates, impact loads of up to approximately 2.5 tonnes cause no plastic deformation whatsoever.

All essential structural components are safely integrated within the conveyor. By dispensing with vibratory technology and hydraulic components, the solution combines the advantages of a simple, robust and low-maintenance mechanical conveying system.
