Interview with Torsten Geiser

Anyone who transports and stores bulk materials needs to know how they react. In the laboratory of AUMUND Fördertechnik’s R&D department, a CENTREX® (silo discharge), an oven for moisture reduction and a wear measuring drum are used for just such practical tests.

Tosten Geiser, Head of Design at AUMUND Fördertechnik: “We use more than 100 bulk materials at the Rheinberg site for corresponding basic measurements. Over the course of 40 years, around 1,000 data records have been recorded in our system. These bulk material tests serve as a knowledge base so that we can offer the optimum machine technology for every customer and every requirement.”
In the second test room, this data is supplemented by tests on the angle of repose, wall friction angle and internal friction angle, bulk density and moisture content. Bulk material parameters for silo storage complete the database. Together with the bulk solids laboratory, the AUMUND laboratory is therefore also an ideal point of contact for customers and companies to clarify how and for how long material can be stored without problems and at what angle of inclination it becomes critical during transportation.
