Scholarship student Jonas Bogler

The scholarship programme run by the Aumund Foundation took Jonas Bogler to a slightly out-of-the-ordinary workplace during the practical phase of his bachelor’s degree: AUMUND Ltda in São Paulo.

The team on site made the more than 10,000 km distance from his home in Germany easy to bear. After a warm welcome, Jonas was given the chance to work on a project and see the equipment first-hand. A week-long business trip to visit several cement plants offered deep insights into the industrial face of Brazil.

It was at this point – where theory met practice – that he felt he had arrived in his professional role. The project tasks were jam-packed with adventurous challenges, such as climbing the 110 m high heat exchanger at a cement plant. Jonas says, “Up there the drive unit of an AUMUND Bucket Elevator was being serviced. The view of the whole plant from that dizzying height was unbelievable. I am used to heights, but as the lattice-type stairs bent with every step, the way to the top was a small test of courage even for me.” Only one other thing rivalled that experience – a climbing tour in Rio!

Also at a personal level, the time in São Paulo was extremely enriching. Jonas says, “My colleagues gave me such a warm welcome, and a nice feeling of real friendship has developed. The Brazilian culture is unbelievably lively, and the people are extremely helpful and caring.”

Jonas Bogler concludes, “Spending this time in Brazil has been the most exciting phase of my life so far. The combination of high-profile project work, sincere teamwork and intensive cultural experiences has helped me enormously, both professionally and personally. I am convinced that I will continue to benefit from what I have been able to experience here for a long time to come.”
